Species Distribution
In Japan, Aomori prefecture and southward on the Pacific side. Fukui prefecture and southward on the Japan Sea side. Other distribution areas include Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and coastal areas of China.

This is the only species in the genus Chasmagnathus. This species constructs burrows in embankments of paddle field water channels and wetlands located in basins or river mouths. This species is omnivorous, but often feeds on plants such as reeds.
