Species Distribution
Within Japan, it is found in Matsushima Bay in Miyagi prefecture and southward. Overseas distribution includes coastal areas of China, Vietnam, and the Korean Peninsula.

Chinbowrah (general term for sails such as B. multiformis and Cerithidea cingulata)
Japan Red List of Threatened Species: Near Threatened
Because of the shapes and sizes, it used to be thought of as a subspecies of those found in mainland. However, a recent DNA analysis indicated that the species in Okinawa is a variety of the species found in other areas of Japan. This species can be found in bottoms comprised of mud and sand mixtures found in bays, mangroves, and tidelands.
