- Japanese common name was originated from the snake-like patterns on the body. When this species is attacked by fish or crabs, it expels sticky, white, and filamentous organs from its anus. Fish or crabs will not be able to move once trapped in the organ. Similar species called Bohadschia sp. has similar appearance, but Bohadschia sp. has many small dots in the spots on the body.
