- This species is big and thick having characteristic conical bumps on the dorsal side. The Horned Sea Star is found in seagrass beds, and it extends its stomach to feed on detritus such as dead seagrass. It sometimes feeds on corals, too. Honeycomb Sea Star, P. alveolatus, is a closely related but very rare species.
