Species Distribution

Within Japan, its distribution includes Kohama, Iriomote, Ishigaki, Okinawa, and Uchibanari Islands. Overseas this species can be found in coastal areas of Africa, Australia, China, India, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands.

Japan Red List of Threatened Species: Vulnerable

This species grows in coastal areas especially where rocks are abundant. Some of this species is identified in Manko, a mudland in Naha. Since the distribution area is very limited, landfill and other development may have been reducing its habitats. Okinawa is the northernmost part of the species’ distribution and the only place this species is found in Japan.
