Since horns are on top of eyes, the crab was called “Tsuno-gani”, meaning horned crab.

This species is very small crab and found in areas mixture of sand and mud. Compared with body size, the claws are big. It moves both claws up and down on tidal flats. Horn-like bumps on top of the eyes are the characteristic structures of the crab.
