- This species is in the family Atydae. The body has reddish-brown mottled patterns and the tail has vivid blue patterns. In Okinawa, it is found in fast-running upper streams. Amano shrimp has strong, thick legs to withstand the rapid water flow. It hides under rocks during daytime since it is a nocturnal animal. At nighttime, the shrimp gets active feeding on algae on rocks.
