- As described in the Japanese common name, this species has characteristic red-colored claws. It looks similar to P. pilicatum, but P. tripectinus is smaller and its body has more red on it. Its distribution areas include western Japan to Taiwan. The species inhabits tidal flats with sandy silts and reed beds located in brackish waters.
